Sunflower or Helianthus annuus L is a native plant of North America, specifically in the area of Mexico, Peru and Chile. These plants come from families compositeae (Asteraceae). There are approximately 67 species in this genus Helianthus. Helianthus comes from the word helios meaning sun and anthos meaning flower. But the most plausible reason why sunflower is named because the flowers are always facing towards the coming of the sun. This interest moves follow the biggest light source. In china flower is known as the Xiang ri kui. While in Indonesia itself had many names including pupil interest Matori, ledomata, flower stengenge, Bungong matuhori, purbanegara, until sungeng.
This short-lived herbaceous tunbuh upright as high as 1 to 3 meters with fine hairs on all parts. Single heart-shaped leaves with large flowers resembling the cup around the edges.
