Mystery of Gravity Hill
>> Tuesday, November 22, 2011
In some places in the world, there are regions which do not seem to follow a universal law of gravity. This region is often called Gravity Hill or Magnetic Hill. At Gravity Hill, if we stopped the car in the middle of the road and take off the brakes, then, slowly moving his own car will slide into the road uphill. If we pour water into the middle of the road, then the water will flow uphill toward the road. It's as if gravity does not work in this place. Many people equate with Gravity Hill, Mystery Spot, even though both are clearly different. Mystery Spot is a place of tourist attraction in Santa Cruz, California which opened in 1939. At the Mystery Spot, like the one in Santa Cruz for example, there are houses and there are attractions which shows that the laws of gravity do not apply. At the Mystery Spot, a person can stand on the wall of a house and will not fall.
While Gravity Hill is just a region or a long road, there is no attraction or place of ticket sales. The only attraction at Gravity Hill is looking at a car moving uphill road. Some tourist sites are similar to the Mystery Spot include St.Ignace in Michigan and Oregon Vortex in Oregon. While the location of which is similar to the Gravity Hill found worldwide. Starting from America, Scotland, Italy, Canada, Japan, Korea until Kelud in Indonesia. These sites have attracted millions of people every year to enjoy what is called the sensation of gravity. In this article, I will only discuss about Gravity Hill. Regarding the Mystery Spot I will discuss on another occasion. Many theories have been raised about Gravity Hill, from the curved Earth's gravity, the presence of magnetic sources that interfere with the theory of gravity to the mystical.
However, the question is, whether the phenomenon of Gravity Hill is a defiance of the Law of Gravity? Did Isaac Newton forgot to add a footnote in which he is the law of universal gravitation?
The answer is: no!
The law of gravity still apply in this place. Even Gravity Gravity Hill showed superior compared to the observation of law and human perception. At Gravity Hill, proved that the perception does not equal reality.
So, what exactly causes this phenomenon?
The answer is the Optical Illusion or Visual Illusion. This theory has been tested by scientists and is considered the most accurate explanations. Optical illusion is often used by magicians or ilusionist to create effects that make us wonder as to make an elephant disappear in the middle of the stage or bring it back. However, an optical illusion that is in the Gravity Hill is not created by the arrangement and design of man. Nature with a unique way to decide to give a little entertainment to man. Believe it or not, in the Gravity Hill, arrangement of trees, roads, direction of view and the horizon (the boundary) are working together to create the illusion of an extraordinary, so extraordinary, so our eyes and our perception deflected fooled.
My point is, the illusion is created that declining to make the highway look like uphill.
So when we turned off the car and took off the brake, the car was actually obey the laws of gravity with a move to follow a declining path. But our eyes rebel against reality. We see the road that came down it like a road uphill.
What is the evidence?
I know it's very difficult for us to accept this explanation. But this conclusion has been confirmed by tests and measurements with advanced technology. Physicist Brock Weiss of Pennsylvania State University said: "Line road that is in place that has a groove that gives the effect as if the path is uphill. This coupled with the position of trees around it with a curved horizon is finally mixed and deceive our eyes. " To our eyes, looks like an uphill road. However, measurements taken, with GPS for example, shows that the road was actually declining. The most important factor of creating this illusion is the horizon or the boundary of the disturbed. Without the horizon, then see if a road uphill or down will be very difficult.
For simplicity you understand it, I found a very good illustration of this illusion. The pictures below are made by a Japanese named Akiyoshi. Look at the pictures below. Remember what I wrote above, that Horizon or the boundaries are very important in the creation of this illusion. If we look at the picture on the left below, then we will see it as uphill road. But when we increase the horizon like in the picture right, then the highway will be seen to decrease.
